The American Society of American Travel Writers lists the ten items every traveler should carry:
-- A good pair of walking shoes
-- A photocopy of your passport
-- Photocopies of your credit cards (carry the copies separately from the originals)
-- Photocopies of prescriptions for necessary medicines or eyeglasses
-- Ziploc bags in various sizes
-- Imodium (for diarrhea)
-- A pocket flashlight
-- Spare camera batteries
-- Your address book or preprinted address labels
-- You may also want to bring adapter plugs
Other travel tips include:
-- Putting your name and address inside your suitcase
-- Bringing a travel pillow
-- Packing medicines and a change of clothes in your carry-on
-- Bringing a nighttime reading light
-- Cotton socks for airplane travel
-- Small first aid kit
-- Travel umbrella and/or “poncho in a pouch”
